Reiki
It is not until we have a physical problem that begins to restrict the way we live and what we want to do, that we begin a search for a way of balance.
History
The practice of Reiki is an original method of healing, developed by Mikao Usui in Japan early in the 20th century. It works on every level, not just the physical.
Dr Mikao Usui 1865 – 1926
Dr Mikao Usui was born on the 18th August 1865 in Japan and was the founder of the Usui System of Reiki or Usui Shiki Ryoho. He came from a fairly wealthy Buddhist family, who encouraged him to study, both academically and physically. Usui was interested in different types of medicine, energy movement and religions, reading widely on all subjects. He was looking to find a way to heal himself and others, using his hands, that didn't deplete his own energy levels and he devoted many years searching for a system. His open minded approach towards other belief systems and religions is why Reiki is accessible to everyone; it has no religious attachments.
As part of his search, Usui travelled to China and the West to study their medicines and disciplines. He undertook a great many different types of work, eventually leading him back to Buddhism. Usui became a Tendai Buddhist monk and lived in a monastery near Mount Kurama, where he continued his studies.
It was whilst he was living at the monastery, that Usui decided to attend Isyu Guo, a 21 day training course, to seek enlightenment. He developed a healing system, scanning the body until he succeeded in reaching a tip of energetic diagnosis. Any imbalances were treated through the corresponding area of the body. The Reiki power finds its own paths, and energy focus goes precisely where it is needed.
Dr Usui opened his own clinic in Kyoto, where he both healed and taught others. Today Reiki is a popular, therapeutic healing system, the benefits of which have been received and recognised by both individuals and holistic therapy associations.
Hands on Reiki
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the unseen "life force energy" that flows through us and keeps us alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is
"life force energy". So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy."
Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and condition, creating a beneficial effect. It also works in conjunction with all other medical/therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.
Reiki is an accessible hands-on healing technique that enables you to help yourself. It is a giving and receiving process, it opens the mind to inherent knowledge and understanding of how the body is created, what sustains it and what destroys it prematurely, assisting pain relief and healing illness.
Who can benefit?
Reiki’s gentle and non-invasive nature is perfect for treating physical, emotional, mental and spiritual needs. It is safe and effective for all ages, including children who are extremely receptive to Reiki’s positive effects. Reiki is given fully clothed and Hervé works both ‘hands-on and hands-off.’
How does it help?
Our body is composed not only of physical elements such as muscles, bones, nerves, arteries, organs, glands, etc.; it also has a subtle energy system through which 'life force energy' flows. This subtle energy system which surrounds our physical body and internal structures also helps us in processing our thoughts and emotions.
The energy centres called chakras, allow life force to circulate through the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies. We also have energy meridians, these are like rivers, or streams which carry our life force energy throughout our physical body, to nourish us and assist in balancing our body’s systems and functions. Our physical body is alive because of the 'life force energy' that is flowing through it.
One thing that disrupts and weakens the flow of 'life force energy' is stress. It has determined that continual stress can block the body's natural ability to repair, regenerate and protect itself. Stress is like a tourniquet around the body and it is estimated that 75% of all health issues are the result or reaction to stress. The effects of unreleased stress range from minor aches to major health concerns, such as heart disease, digestive disorders, respiratory and skin problems.
Reiki restores energy balance and vitality by relieving the physical and emotional effects of unreleased stress. It gently and effectively opens blocked meridians, nadas and chakras, and clears the energy bodies, leaving one feeling relaxed and at peace.

How can I expect to feel during and after a treatment?
A treatment feels like warm, gentle sunshine which flows through you, surrounds you and comforts you. The client feels a sense of peace and relaxation, calm and happiness. Some people will feel sensations as energy is targeted and balanced. It can often be a catalyst for change, empowering the receiver, and can be a profound experience.
